Recently, Baoshen Railway of CHN Energy recorded a cumulative annual freight volume exceeding 50.3 million tons. Of this total, in-network thermal coal transportation reached 2.7276 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 407,100 tons, or 17.54%, thereby providing robust support for thermal coal supply.

A 10,000-ton heavy-load train is passing over Yanjiata Bridge on Shenshuo Railway.

The company has leveraged its integrated operational advantages across coal, power, rail, port and shipping to actively coordinate with upstream and downstream enterprises. This collaborative approach has enabled the construction of a multi-sourced, complementary transportation ecosystem featuring coal from Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia and Shaanxi. By precisely monitoring daily consumption and inventory levels at power plants within its network, the firm ensures that transportation planning, train scheduling, loading and dispatch processes operate in seamless coordination. In addition, by focusing on the organization and handling of thermal coal and establishing a 24-hour emergency response mechanism, the company can swiftly resolve any unforeseen issues during transit, ensuring that coal is accurately monitored, properly loaded and efficiently transported.

Addressing challenges on the southern section of the railway, where small open-top freight cars have made it difficult to assemble trains with a 10,000-ton capacity, the company has optimized its transportation resource allocation by increasing the number of small switching locomotives. This measure has effectively alleviated heavy freight congestion and created favorable conditions for reducing port inventory. Meanwhile, units within the network have undertaken proactive safety inspections, targeting key areas such as track equipment, locomotives and signal systems. A dual approach combining pre-shift education with on-site supervision has further enhanced frontline safety awareness, thereby fostering a stable environment for transportation operations.

Currently, digital technologies are being used to dynamically monitor every stage of the transportation process, enabling a closed-loop management system that integrates demand collection, capacity allocation, and issue feedback. Looking ahead, the company plans to continue optimizing its transportation organization and deepen cross-regional as well as cross-industry collaboration. With the objective of ensuring stable supplies for people’s livelihoods, power generation and heating, the company is fully committed to supporting the broader national energy security agenda.
